For most adults ages 65 and older, Medicare offers free screening for diabetes and pre-diabetes.

To qualify, an adult 65 or older needs to have at least one of these risk factors for diabetes:

  • High blood pressure
  • Family history of diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes during pregnancy
  • History of high blood glucose (commonly referred to as high blood sugar)
  • High cholesterol or high triglycerides

Those that qualify may be eligible for up to two free screenings each year. The screening consists of a blood glucose test that checks for diabetes and pre-diabetes.
